Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR - Racing Cars for the Drive Home - 10.21.2008
- Article Number: 6
| A 600 horespower, street legal racing car?! Street legal racing car?! Yep!! But, have no doubts that this racing car is built to race on the track. Can you really do both with Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR? Absolutely! You'll be driving your Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR sports car from your home, with a permanent grin on your face, while everyone is watching you driving your Dodge Viper racing car in the streets, then win first place in the race. After the race, you'll meet some hot girls who will not only be interested in your Dodge Viper racing car, but in the driver too! Then you'll drive back home with that big grin on your face again. How many cars can pull off something this awesome? Not many. The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is one of the very few.
SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology in Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR supercar, and ACR stands for American Club Racing. As you can see - racing is even in the name of the Dodge Viper sports car, which meets the five key aspects of the SRT family: standout powertrain, bold exterior styling, race-inspired interior, benchmark braking, and world-class ride and handling characteristics across a dynamic range.
You can always recognize the distinct Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR sports car by its two-tone paint scheme; a black stripe in the middle, like all other supercars from Dodge Viper series. If the "entry level" Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR isn't enough, and you want to achieve maximum racing performance, you can purchase a "Hardcore" package of this supercar where only the core parts will be left and everything else will be removed to reduce the weight of the sports car by 80 pounds.
Specifications
To satisfy your hunger for speed and power, the Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR sports car has a new 8.4 liter aluminum V-10 engine which can produce up to 600 hp. Don't push the accelerator too hard, because with 560 lb-ft of torque it will be able to compete with the fastest racing cars. And like a real sports car, Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR has a six-speed manual transmission, is capable of reaching 202mph (325km/h) and will fire you from 0 to 60mph (100km/h) in a blazing 3.5 seconds. So, let's take this sports car, put that big, silly grin on your face and go to find somebody to race in our Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR racing car. |

| The southwestern United States just got a little bit hotter! A few Dodge Viper Diamondbacks were caught hot weather testing down in the Southwestern United States, complete with a hood bulge likely hiding the 650-hp engine we got a sneak peek of during the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit (concept pictured). The powerplant, which is a collaboration between McLaren and American Specialty Cars, pushes the Dodge Viper to 60 in less than 3.5 seconds. Check out the video to catch the beast in action. 2008 Dodge Viper - Raw Power - 10.19.2008
- Article Number: 4
| First introduced in 1992, the Dodge Viper is a high-performance sports car that goes from zero to 60 in under four seconds and lists for just over $87,000. The Dodge Viper is a two-seater with an incredible 600-horsepower V10 engine that was redesigned for 2008 with variable valve timing. Another improvement for 2008 was an improved exhaust system that actually manages to keep the driver and passenger much cooler than in previous models of the Dodge Viper.
Quick Dodge Viper Facts
1. Class: Sports Car, Convertible 2. MSRP: Starts at $87,040 3. Fuel Efficiency: 13 mpg (city); 22 mpg (hwy) 4. Transmission: 6-speed manual 5. Assembled in Detroit, Michigan 6. Designer: Tom Gale 7. Inspiration: AC Cobra of the 1960s 8. First Model Year: 1992 9. Closest competitor: Chevrolet Corvette 10. Fun: Once beat an F-16 fighter jet in a race!
Car and Driver Review of the Dodge Viper:
1. Lists the "highs" for the Viper as its unbridled power, its improved comfort, and the sheer "wow" factor of the look of the car. 2. "Lows" are the fuel efficiency (or lack thereof), the price, the occasional rough riding experience when on bad roads, and the car's overall livability. 3. The magazine describes the Dodge Viper driving experience as "surprisingly easy." 4. C&D's road test for speed for the '08 Viper had it outperforming all its nearest competitors' latest models: it's faster than the Corvette, the Porsche 911, the Ford GT and the Audi R8.
Motor Trend Road Test of the Dodge Viper:
1. The fact that the engine's hit the 600-horsepower mark is MT's biggest high point; Motor Trend reminds us that the nearest sports car that equals the Dodge Viper in horsepower is the $300K Lamborghini Murcielago! 2. The magazine calls the addition of variable valve timing to the engine a "major tech coup," the ultimate result being a wider power band, a better idling experience, and "bigger power up the RPM range." 3. MT calls the previous incarnation of the Viper's interior a "convection oven" due to the crossover system of the exhaust running underneath the seats and making it uncomfortably hot for the driver and passenger. The 2008 exhaust redesign fixes the heat problem while maintaining the engines "exotic" sound. |
